What if your next trek wasn’t just an escape but a chance to do things differently? With a few conscious choices, your journey could help restore the land, support local livelihoods, and turn your travel into part of something bigger.
At G-Trek, we believe that travel should mean more than just passing through. Since 2014, we haven’t only led people on trek routes; we’ve invited them to take part in something larger. We are shaped by the land and the people, committed to creating trekking experiences that leave a real and lasting impact on both the traveler and the place.
Based in the highlands of Sembalun, East Lombok, G-Trek was founded to respond to a deeper calling: the need to transform tourism into a regenerative force and not just a mere transaction. Sembalun is a place of striking beauty and traditions, and communities have learnt to adapt and endure. But like many rural areas, beneath the beauty are harder truths: forests and rice fields are shrinking, the climate is unpredictable, jobs are limited, and young people are beginning to lose their connection to home. We started G-Trek because we believed that tourism, done differently, could fix what it often breaks.
Over the past decade, we’ve turned that question into action by initiating after-school for character building, working closely with local farmers, youth groups, women’s collectives, and conservation networks. Through these efforts, G-Trek has become more than a trekking company; we are an active part of collective Sembalun’s effort to build a responsible, well-managed tourism destination, facilitated by the Sembalun Destination Management Organisation (DMO). Our business practices directly support better coordination, community participation, and long-term sustainability in how tourism is planned, managed, and grown in the region.
G-Trek applies the principles of regenerative tourism, a step beyond sustainability. It’s not just about minimising harm; it’s about leaving places better than we found them. Here’s how we do it:
We work with you to co-design your trip, custom routes, immersive experiences, and carbon-conscious choices, so your journey directly supports local livelihoods and environmental restoration.
Our guides, homestay hosts, and porters are all part of the community. Your participation helps keep cultural traditions alive and creates jobs where they’re needed most.
A portion of every booking supports education, reforestation projects, waste management innovations, youth training, and women’s economic empowerment.
Through community-led projects and programs, we help you track and offset your travel emissions. By working with G-Trek, you’re contributing to a larger, ongoing process to rebuild the local ecosystem of people and environment.
With more than ten years of hands-on experience guiding travellers from around the world, we understand what makes for a great trek: safety, authenticity, connection, and impact. From the summit of Mount Rinjani to the quiet beauty of Sembalun’s hidden trails, our expert team makes sure that every step you take is a deliberate decision to respect, honour and leave something good behind for the land and people.
G-Trek, based in Sembalun, East Lombok, aims to transform tourism into a regenerative force by creating trekking experiences that leave a lasting impact on both the traveler and the place.
